Mapping Sub-plots

ACTIVITY
  • Each group will be allocated a sub-plot of the novel “Bog Child” by Siobhan Dowd.
  • Antrim - Hunger Strikes(Joe) and Rafters dominance of Fergus
  • Belfast - Uncle Tally's Connections and secrecy plus Bog Child Inquest
  • Londonderry - Fergus' Journey
  • Armagh - Mel's Story

  • You will create a Wiki page that looks at the sub-plot you have been given. You will draw a graph.

  • Draw an x and y axis on the page. The x axis represents the chapters in the novel. The y axis shows the level of tension within that particular sub-plot.

  • For the chosen chapters, plot the level of tension within that sub-plot. In some chapter the sub-plot will not be mentioned, and the level of tension will remain the same as it was in the previous chapter.

  • You will need to look at other groups wiki and chapter analysis to find the information you need. Additionally, you will need to find the relevant chapters in the novel and discuss them.

  • For each important chapter add a short explanation for the jump in tension into your graph, and a quote which supports your explanation

  • Make sure that the climax of the subplot is clear on your graph.

  • All sub-plots will be plotted onto the board and analysed for patterns.
